Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Make Time’s 100 Most Influential List

Published

on

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been named among the top 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.

The director general of the World Trade Organization is featured alongside the likes of Prince Harry & Meghan Markle, singer Britney Spears, Apple CEO Tim Cook and gymnast Simone Biles.

A new photo of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been released for the magazine’s front cover to mark the accolade.

According to Time Magazine:

“As the first African and first woman to lead the World Trade Organization, a 164-member group of nations that oversees trade across the world, Okonjo-Iweala took on the role of director-general this March at a watershed moment for our global health and well-being. Make no mistake, her job affects every person, family and community.

As we face a constant barrage of vaccine misinformation, bureaucratic slowdowns across both government and industry, and the rise of variants that underscore the urgency of the situation, Okonjo-Iweala has shown us that to end the pandemic, we must work together to equip every nation with equitable vaccine access. Our conversations with her have been as informative as they are energizing. This is partly because, despite the challenges, she knows how to get things done—even between those who don’t always agree—and does so with grace and a smile that warms the coldest of rooms.

The fragility of our world right now cannot be overstated. Just over a quarter of the nearly 8 billion global population is fully vaccinated.
Achieving vaccine equity is a global duty of compassion for one another. Our hope is that guided by strong leaders like Ngozi, we can get there soon.”

Issa Rae Shines Bright On The Cover of Self Magazine’s Latest Issue

Published

on

By

American actress, writer, and producer Issa Rae is shinning bright on the cover of Self Magazine’s latest issue. She discusses about her series, Insecure, life as a newlywed, self care and much more.

Read excerpts below:

On self-care
Waking up super early just makes me feel better… Waking up at four, I’m just like, ‘Not a lot of people are awake right now, at least on the West Coast,’ and that makes me feel like I have a window of time just for me. I think that’s my form of meditation because I don’t meditate.

On expanding her family

I’m extremely happy [being married], [But] I like my life, I like this selfishness, and I know that I have a window. I’ve always felt that way, that women, Black women especially—unless you’re Viola Davis or Angela Bassett—you have a window when people are going to want to continue to see you and see what you can do. Then there are so many limitations placed upon you, and that does keep me up.
I want to do as much as I can while I still can. I know it’s not the proper mentality to think that kids will slow you down, but I do feel that way.

On protecting her privacy and having a personal boundary with sharing her life with the press

There’s something nice to have a piece of me that no one knows about or no one can talk about except for the people that are part of my life. Self-care has been having a private piece that’s just for me.
I would share so much of myself, of my friend group, and it was fun because it felt like just amongst my friends. The more I started to seep out, the more I felt like people took ownership of me and my decisions and things that I did. That’s just not something that sat right with me, and I found that I don’t like to be the subject of conversations that I don’t initiate.

Published

By

On the cover of GQ magazine’s November issue is American actor and singer Will Smith. Will Smith discusses his marriage, Emancipation, career his upcoming memoir and more in this new issue.

Speaking with journalist Wesley Lowery, the 53-year-old movie star discussed how the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement last year impacted his decision to take on Emancipation, which was inspired by the photo and life story of “Whipped Peter.”

According to GQ:
For decades, he worked tirelessly to make himself the biggest movie star on the planet. Then he hit his “fuck-it 50s” and everything changed. Now, as he prepares a raw new memoir and a pair of films tackling racial themes, Will Smith is ready to speak his truth.

Smith describes Emancipation, as “about love and the power of Black love, and that was something that I could rock with,” Smith said. “We were going to make a story about how Black love makes us invincible.”

During their interview, however, Lowery said Smith admitted that Jada was not the only one who had had extramarital affairs, alluding to her self-described “entanglement’ with August Alsina.
